Rail Transit Times

Since 2017, The Port of Virginia has been the East Coast’s leading rail port, with over 34% of its cargo arriving and departing on track. Double stack rail service is offered by the port’s two Class 1 rail partners, Norfolk Southern and CSX, allowing for hundreds of containers to transit directly from the terminal in a single, safe, and sustainable move on 36,800 linear feet, or almost 7 miles, of on-dock track.
Our strategic location in the middle of the eastern seaboard of the United States enables us to offer customers quick and affordable rail service to a number of destinations / origins from the Northeast, to the Southeast, to the Midwest — where we’re able to reach Chicago in just 47 hours, and Columbus Ohio faster than any other East Coast port at 36 hours.
The Port of Virginia is proud to be the largest intermodal rail port on the East Coast, with to/from service to more than a dozen midwest markets.
